The comparison
| Tool | Main job | Who it's built for | Published pricing | What we couldn't verify |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luminance | Contract intelligence: negotiate against precedent and playbooks, find risk across a portfolio, run intake-to-signature workflows | Enterprises; legal, procurement, finance and sales teams | Not published; demo request only | Word integration (not mentioned on its homepage), accuracy, the "75%" review-reduction claim |
| Spellbook | Contract review and drafting, connected to Word | In-house teams and law firms | Not published; priced by team members on the license, quote after a demo; 7-day free trial | Accuracy, how the Word integration behaves |
| Gavel Exec | Review, redlining and drafting in Word and online | Solo, small and mid-sized firms and in-house counsel | USD 160 per user per month for 1,000 completions (homepage); 25 free queries | A separate contract review pricing page we didn't open |

| Kira | Provision extraction for high-volume review and due diligence | M&A, real estate, banking and finance review teams | Not published; demo request | Pricing, current generative features beyond the product page |
| Juro | CLM where business teams self-serve on contracts | Legal teams plus sales, HR, finance and procurement | No dollar figures; plans by monthly contract volume, unlimited users | Actual quote, review depth versus the review-first tools |
| Harvey | Legal AI platform with Contract Intelligence among other products | Law firms and in-house legal teams | Not published; demo request | Pricing, contract review depth |
Legora (site) shows no pricing and a "Book a demo" button, and its homepage doesn't describe contract review specifically, so we left it out of the table. Product and pricing may change.
Who each is for
Luminance. Its homepage targets enterprises across several departments, not just legal, and mentions no SMB offer. If you want a portfolio-wide contract tool with negotiation, discovery and workflow in one place and you're fine with a sales process, it's on the list. If you want to try it on a Tuesday with a credit card, nothing on the page offers that. See our Luminance profile.
Spellbook. A Word-centered review and drafting tool aimed at in-house teams and law firms, with a self-serve 7-day trial. It's thinner as a repository or workflow tool. Our Spellbook alternatives page goes the other direction, and Spellbook vs Luminance compares the two directly.
Gavel Exec. The only tool here with a price on its homepage and a free start without a card, which suits small firms testing quickly. It's general-purpose; ask it to run on your hardest contract type before relying on it. It's profiled here.
LegalOn. Review and redlining against your own playbook, in the platform or in Word, for in-house teams. Pricing is by demo. Profile: LegalOn.
Ironclad and Juro. These replace a different problem: where contracts are created, approved and stored. Ironclad targets legal ops and procurement; Juro says business teams can self-serve and publishes the pricing basis (contract volume) though not the numbers. See Ironclad vs Luminance vs Kira and Ironclad alternatives.
Kira. Extraction and review grids for diligence-style volume. If your work is a data room, not a negotiation, compare it with Luminance in Luminance vs Kira.
Harvey and Legora. Broad platforms sold to firms and legal departments by demo. They're an alternative if you want one legal AI environment rather than a contracts specialist. See Harvey vs Luminance and Legora alternatives.
Pricing, as shown on October 21, 2026
- Luminance: not published. The homepage's only call to action is a demo request, and the /pricing path returned a 404.
- Spellbook: pricing page says it's structured around the number of team members on a license, with a personalized quote after a demo. No figure shown. 7-day free trial.
- Gavel Exec: USD 160 per user per month for 1,000 completions, on the homepage. Its Workflows product has separate plans on its pricing page, which aren't what you'd compare to Luminance.
- Juro: pricing page shows no dollar amounts; plans depend on monthly contract volume and integration complexity, with unlimited users. Salesforce, HubSpot and Workday integrations cost extra.
- LegalOn, Ironclad, Kira, Harvey, Legora: no price on the pages we read; demo or sales contact.
What we couldn't verify
- Luminance's price, contract terms, and whether any smaller-company offer exists.
- Luminance's Word integration: the homepage doesn't mention it.
- Security: Luminance's page claims an ISO 27001 certified system and regular SOC 2 Type II examinations; LegalOn lists SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001; Spellbook lists SOC 2 Type II. We saw no certificates or reports. Ask for them.
- Customer counts and productivity claims on every vendor's homepage, including Luminance's "75%" and "1.3M+" figures. We didn't audit any.
- Accuracy of review output for any tool, on any contract type.
- Ironclad's, Kira's, Harvey's and Legora's pricing and trial availability.
- Gavel's separate contract review pricing page.
How to choose
- Name the job: negotiating in Word, reviewing a portfolio, running intake-to-signature, or diligence at volume. That removes half the table.
- Pull five real contracts you've already closed, including your messiest, and the markup history.
- Run the vendors that offer a trial or demo on those same files; ask Luminance and the demo-only vendors to show the same contracts live.
- Score missed issues, invented issues, and edits that follow your playbook (use our Luminance vs Claude comparison as a baseline for a general model).
- Ask each for its security reports, data processing agreement, and a written quote with seats or volume stated.

Questions and answers
What are the best Luminance alternatives?
It depends on the job, and we haven't tested them. Spellbook, LegalOn and Gavel Exec are the Word-based review tools; Ironclad and Juro are CLM; Kira is diligence review; Harvey and Legora are broader platforms.
Is there a Luminance alternative for small law firms?
Gavel Exec and Spellbook both describe self-serve starts (25 free queries, and a 7-day trial), and Gavel's homepage lists USD 160 per user per month. Luminance's page describes an enterprise audience.
How much does Luminance cost?
Luminance doesn't publish a price; its homepage only offers a demo request. Treat any figure you see on a blog as unverified.
Luminance vs Spellbook: which should I trial?
Spellbook describes a Word-first review and drafting tool; Luminance describes a wider contract intelligence platform for enterprises. See Spellbook vs Luminance.
Does Luminance work in Microsoft Word?
Its homepage doesn't mention Word, so we can't confirm it. Ask in the demo, and test on a contract you'd redline in Word.
