What changed: Lexis+ AI to Protégé

The product page says "Formerly Lexis+ AI." LexisNexis's February 24, 2026 announcement describes a single prompt box, pre-built workflows for litigation and transactional tasks, a no-code Custom Workflow Builder, and the features carried over from Lexis+ AI: conversational research, drafting, document upload, summarization and analysis. The release also says users can work with LexisNexis-enhanced AI models from Anthropic, Google and OpenAI. A review that scores "Lexis+ AI" from before February 2026 describes the earlier release. Our Lexis AI profile has the naming crosswalk.

What it does, per LexisNexis

The product page lists drafting of agreements, motions, briefs, complaints and client communications; research across LexisNexis content, your own documents and web sources; and a secure Vault for large document sets. It connects to iManage, SharePoint, NetDocuments and other document management systems. Newer features it names are Shepard's Verify (checks citations in AI responses, documents and drafts), agent skills (reusable skills built from your templates, with a library from LexisNexis and Claude), review tables, and shared Workrooms. The FAQ says you can create up to 50 Vaults with 1 to 500 documents each. We explain Workrooms and Shepard's Verify in this guide.

What it costs

LexisNexis does not publish a price for Lexis+ with Protégé, so any dollar figure you see is a third-party estimate or a negotiated quote. Our Lexis+ AI pricing page lists the estimate we found, labelled as an estimate. One gap to flag: the page does not say whether every Protégé feature, such as agent skills or review tables, is in every subscription. Ask in writing.

How it compares

What we couldn't verify

  • Citation accuracy, hallucination rates or time saved. The ROI figures come from studies LexisNexis commissioned.
  • Any price, or which features each subscription includes.
  • The data-use claims in a contract. The operative agreement, security documentation and subprocessor list are what count.
  • Trial length and terms.

How to test it in a week

  1. Request the trial and use non-sensitive documents.
  2. Run the same research question and the same draft task through Protégé and the tool you compare it with.
  3. Check every citation yourself, including those Shepard's Verify flags or passes.
  4. Ask for a written quote that lists which Protégé features are included.
  5. Ask for the data-use terms in the contract, not only on the web page.

Is Lexis+ with Protégé worth it?

That depends on how much of your research already lives in LexisNexis and on tests with your own matters. The vendor cites studies it commissioned, and no independent error rates are published. We did not test it, so we do not give a verdict on quality.

Does LexisNexis train AI on my data?
