Who each is for

Spellbook. The vendor calls it "the complete contract AI suite" for reviewing contracts, drafting agreements and keeping positions consistent across a deal. It's narrow on purpose: contracts, in the documents you already use. The page doesn't describe legal research. Our Spellbook profile and Spellbook pricing page have more.

Legora. The page positions Legora as a platform: an Agent that plans, executes, reviews and delivers legal work, plus Tabular Review, Workflows, Legal Research and Monitors for regulatory change. It's broader than Spellbook and the page gives no price. See our Legora profile and Legora vs Luminance.

Where they overlap. Both work in Word and both offer contract review. The difference to test is scope: a contract tool versus a platform. Our Harvey vs Spellbook and Spellbook alternatives pages cover related choices.

Pricing, as shown on October 28, 2026

  • Spellbook: not published on its home page, which offers a 7-day free trial and a demo. See our Spellbook pricing page for what's known beyond the vendor page.
  • Legora: not published on its home page; the call to action is "Book a demo".

Before you rely on this

  • Prices for either product: ask each vendor for a written quote.
  • Security: Spellbook lists SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA, GDPR and EU AI Act with zero data retention; Legora lists SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, ISO 42001, GDPR and HIPAA with no AI training on your data. Ask each for the reports.
  • Spellbook's time-saved and throughput claims and its customer quotes: the page gives no method, so we repeat none.
  • Legora's customer study: the page cites a study of its customers; we repeat none of its percentages.
  • Integrations: the Legora page links an Integrations page and names none; ask which document systems connect.
  • Which jurisdictions and contract types each handles well: test on your own templates.

How we'd test the two in a week

  1. Pick five contracts you've already reviewed, with known issues, in the types you handle most.
  2. Run the same review in each tool inside Word and note what each flags, misses or invents.
  3. Draft one clause from your playbook position in each and compare to your own wording.
  4. Try one multi-document task, such as comparing a counterparty draft to your template.
  5. Ask each for security documentation, data retention terms and a written quote.
