What the official catalogs establish
| Route | Verified status on September 3, 2026 | Buyer must preserve |
|---|---|---|
| Anthropic API | Current model ID claude-fable-5-1; 1M context and 128K maximum output documented. | Organization, API terms, region, retention and request evidence. |
| Amazon Bedrock | Active model card with model ID anthropic.claude-fable-5-1, regional availability and Bedrock APIs. | AWS account, region, marketplace terms, inference profile, logs and refusal handling. |
| Google Vertex AI | Google Cloud Model Garden lists Fable 5.1 for Vertex AI Studio and API use. | Project, billing, model identifier, location, Google and Anthropic terms, logging and support. |
| Microsoft Foundry | claude-fable-5-1 is listed as Preview, hosted on Anthropic infrastructure, with Microsoft Entra ID authentication. | Preview terms, deployment, hosting path, region, data processing, logs and support. |
Controls do not travel with the model name
An Anthropic model card can establish model-level facts. It does not establish which entity bills the customer, which cloud receives the request first, which region applies, which identity controls access or which support team holds operational evidence. Read the marketplace’s own source beside Anthropic’s documentation.
Microsoft explicitly distinguishes Azure-hosted Claude routes from routes hosted on Anthropic infrastructure. Its current Fable listing uses the Anthropic-hosted preview path. Do not describe that route as Azure-hosted inference or infer Azure data residency from the Foundry brand.
Marketplace responsibility matrix
| Field | Required evidence | Stop condition |
|---|---|---|
| Contract and seller | Order form, marketplace terms and incorporated Anthropic terms | The governing document chain is incomplete. |
| Hosting and region | Architecture and region for prompts, outputs, logs and safety review | Data location or operator remains Unknown. |
| Identity and authority | Account, project, role, key or Entra policy and offboarding test | Personal or shared credentials reach matter data. |
| Logging and retention | Provider, marketplace and customer-side copies with deletion rules | One route’s retention statement is reused for another. |
| Model control | Exact ID, alias behavior, lifecycle and fallback | The tested version cannot be reproduced. |
| Support and incident | Named support channel, identifiers, evidence and escalation path | The firm cannot connect a run to either provider. |
Run a route-level canary
- Use non-sensitive test content.
- Capture account, project, region, model ID and endpoint.
- Verify identity, least privilege and offboarding.
- Inspect observable provider, marketplace and customer logs.
- Test refusal, timeout, deletion and incident contacts.
- Record which facts remain outside customer visibility.
Choose the smallest defensible route
Prefer the route that fits the firm’s existing identity, contract, region, logging, support and operations without adding unnecessary infrastructure. A familiar cloud can reduce integration work, but it does not automatically resolve Anthropic’s model terms or covered-model safeguards. The direct API may be simpler for a small bounded application, but then the firm owns more of the surrounding controls. Keep the tradeoff specific to the workflow.
FAQ
Is Fable 5.1 the same on every marketplace?
The model family may be the same, but model IDs, availability, hosting, identity, region, logging, billing, support and contract paths can differ.
Is Fable 5.1 Azure-hosted in Microsoft Foundry?
Microsoft currently lists Fable 5.1 as a preview hosted on Anthropic infrastructure. The firm should preserve the exact deployment and terms.
Does buying through a cloud marketplace replace Anthropic diligence?
No. Review the marketplace and Anthropic documents, plus the firm’s own architecture and controls, for the purchased route.
