Its security page names a current SOC 2 Type 2 audit and ISO 27001, 27017, 27018 and 27701 (netdocuments.com/solutions/security-data-governance).

What NetDocuments is
NetDocuments is where a firm files its work: documents and email organized by client and matter, with version control, search and Microsoft Outlook, Word and Teams connections (netdocuments.com/pricing). It is a system of record, not a research or drafting tool. The AI features sit on top of that repository.
Who NetDocuments is for
Best for: Firms and legal departments that want the AI to run inside their document repository, under the permissions and ethical walls they already set, and that already use or are choosing a cloud DMS.
The site has pages for small, midsize and large firms, corporations, in-house departments and government. Customer stories and counts on it are vendor-selected and we did not verify them. If you only want a research or drafting assistant and have no DMS decision to make, this is the wrong layer to start with.
NetDocuments pricing
There is no public price. The pricing page says cost is “tailored to your organization” and varies with the number of users, regions, practice-group structure, the products and integrations included, and the size of the rollout and training (netdocuments.com/pricing). It shows no plan or amount. Ask for a written quote that lists each AI product separately and what migration and training cost.
Notable features
The Legal AI Assistant (ndMAX) is described as letting you ask questions of one file or hundreds, generate summaries, chronologies and translations, and, through its agentic tools, make edits in Word or extract data (netdocuments.com legal AI assistant). The contract-review use case it shows returns answers with citations to the source.
Tabular Review, AI Search and the AI App Builder are listed as separate products; the app builder page shows ready-made apps such as contract playbooks, deposition topics and document comparison (netdocuments.com AI app builder). The Legal Context Graph is presented as new and described as a live map connecting matters, documents and communications; the page we read carries a waitlist link, so confirm what is generally available before you rely on it.
ndConnect is its interoperability program: approved AI tools get governed access to firm content, and the page says permissions, ethical walls and data loss prevention rules are enforced at the connection layer (netdocuments.com/legal-ai-integrations).
Security and data handling
The security page says the platform is validated by annual independent SOC 2 Type 2 audits and that it deploys the controls in ISO 27001, 27017, 27018 and 27701; it offers both NetDocuments-managed and customer-managed encryption keys (netdocuments.com security). Ask for the current SOC 2 report and its dates under NDA rather than relying on the web page.
On AI data, the assistant page says content stays in your NetDocuments tenant, is never used to train public models, that prompt and response processing is transient, and that administrators can apply AI-specific data loss prevention controls (netdocuments.com legal AI assistant). The app builder page adds that its agreement with Microsoft means data is not used to train the Azure OpenAI model. These are vendor statements; get them in the contract.
NetDocuments vs iManage
iManage is the other name searchers pair with NetDocuments. Both sell a legal document and email management platform with built-in AI and an open connection for outside AI tools; both publish no price. The differences below come from each vendor's own pages (netdocuments.com, imanage.com), read 2026-11-02; we did not test either.
AI packaging. NetDocuments names its AI assistant, Tabular Review, AI Search and App Builder as platform products. iManage says its AI products (Ask iManage, AI Services, Mailbox Assistant) are not in a standard cloud subscription and are sold as separate add-ons, and only on its cloudimanage.com endpoint. Ask each vendor for the AI line items.
Outside AI tools. NetDocuments connects through ndConnect and lists Harvey, Legora, Thomson Reuters, Vincent by Clio, Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot Studio. iManage offers an MCP server and names Microsoft Copilot, Harvey, Legora, CoCounsel, Spellbook and ChatGPT Enterprise among compatible tools. Both say existing permissions travel with the connection.
Certifications. NetDocuments names SOC 2 Type 2 and four ISO standards; iManage names SOC 2 Type II, SOC 2+, SOC 3, CSA STAR Level 2 and several ISO standards. Both are vendor claims. See our iManage profile.
Before you rely on this
We did not test the product. Capability, security and customer statements are the vendor's own, and the AI features are described in marketing terms without published accuracy results. Run the assistant on your own matters, with your own permission and ethical-wall setup, before you buy.
NetDocuments alternatives
Other document management systems: iManage. AI tools that connect to a DMS: Harvey and Legora, both named on NetDocuments' integrations page. Review and discovery platforms with their own repositories: Everlaw. See also our guide to legal AI MCP connectors.
How to choose
- Decide first whether the question is where the firm's documents live or which AI assistant to use; NetDocuments answers the first.
- Ask for a written quote that lists the DMS, each AI product and migration and training separately.
- Ask for the current SOC 2 Type 2 report and the written terms on data use, retention and model training.
- Test the assistant with your real permissions and an ethical wall in place, then compare it with iManage's demo on the same matter.
The bottom line: NetDocuments is a cloud legal DMS with AI built in and an open connection for outside AI tools. It publishes no price and names SOC 2 Type 2, so request a written quote and the current report.
