Its AI page says Ask iManage, AI Services and Mailbox Assistant are not in a standard cloud subscription and are sold as separate add-ons, and that they run only on its cloudimanage.com endpoint (imanage.com AI page). Its security page names SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 (imanage.com security page).

What iManage is

iManage Work is where a firm files documents and email by client and matter. Around it the vendor sells cloud, security, records, conflicts and knowledge products, and an AI layer (imanage.com AI page). Like NetDocuments, it is a system of record: the AI is meant to work on what is already in the repository, not replace a research or drafting tool.

Who iManage is for

Best for: Firms and legal departments that already run iManage or need a DMS with strong governance, and want AI that works inside it or connects other tools to it under the same permissions and ethical walls.

The AI products are tied to the cloud: the AI page says they are available only on the cloudimanage.com endpoint and that the vendor is working with customers on moving there. A firm still on an older deployment should ask what that migration involves. Customer quotes on the site are vendor-selected and we did not verify them.

iManage pricing

We found no public price. There is no page at the /pricing URL (checked 2026-11-02), and the platform pages route to a demo or a call. What the AI page does say is that Mailbox Assistant, AI Services and Ask iManage will not be included in a standard cloud subscription and need to be added as separate products (imanage.com AI page). We show no figure. Ask for a written quote that prices the DMS and each AI product separately.

Notable features

Ask iManage is described as an AI assistant built into iManage Work: one prompt searches the repository, reads what it finds and returns cited answers, can pull clauses verbatim, check them against stated policies and run redline analysis (imanage.com Ask iManage). AI Services classifies documents and extracts data points that are stored with the document.

Insight+ adds Matter Search, extended metadata and curated knowledge collections, with an Ask Knowledge assistant on top (imanage.com Insight+). The iManage MCP Server connects governed iManage content to outside AI tools; the page says access, reading or writing, is authenticated, permission-bound and logged, and tells customers to work with their AI vendors to learn what data leaves iManage through the connection (imanage.com MCP page).

Security and data handling

The security page lists ISO 27001, 27701, 27017, 27018 and 22301, SOC 2 Type II, SOC 2+, SOC 3 and CSA STAR Level 2, and says the audits run in the first quarter of each year (imanage.com security page). Ask for the current reports and their dates under NDA.

On AI data, the AI page answers a direct question: by default neither iManage nor its third-party model providers use customer data in the iManage Cloud, including inputs and outputs of AI services, to train or retrain models, and it notes that some services are optional opt-ins that collect limited insights (imanage.com AI page). That is a vendor statement; get it in the contract.

iManage vs NetDocuments

NetDocuments is the other legal DMS searchers pair with iManage. Both sell a document and email management platform with built-in AI and an open connection for outside AI tools; neither publishes a price. The differences below come from each vendor's own pages (imanage.com, netdocuments.com), read 2026-11-02; we did not test either.

AI packaging. iManage says its AI products are separate add-ons and run only on cloudimanage.com. NetDocuments names its Legal AI Assistant, Tabular Review, AI Search and App Builder as platform products and does not say on the pages we read how they are priced. Ask both for the AI line items.

Outside AI tools. iManage offers one MCP server and says it works with any MCP-compliant system. NetDocuments' ndConnect lists Harvey, Legora, Thomson Reuters, Vincent by Clio, Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot Studio. Both say existing permissions apply to the connection.

Certifications. iManage names SOC 2 Type II, SOC 2+, SOC 3, CSA STAR Level 2 and several ISO standards; NetDocuments names SOC 2 Type 2 and four ISO standards. Both are vendor claims. See our NetDocuments profile.

Before you rely on this

We did not test the product. Capability, security and customer statements are the vendor's own, and the AI features are described in marketing terms without published accuracy results. Check the AI products on your own repository and permissions before you buy.

iManage alternatives

Other document management systems: NetDocuments. AI tools that connect to a DMS: Harvey and Legora, both named on iManage's home page. For Microsoft-centred firms, see Copilot for legal. Our guide to legal AI MCP connectors covers the connection layer.

How to choose

The bottom line: iManage is a legal DMS with AI built in and an MCP server for outside AI tools. It publishes no price, sells its AI as add-ons on its cloud endpoint, and names SOC 2 Type II, so request a written quote and the current report.
